None of those things happened to me so don't worry. Actually... nothing really exciting has happened in those 8 months. Maybe that's why I never blogged about anything. Well, that's not entirely true. I guess there has been some neat things our family has done.
Terina played indoor soccer! She wasn't the fastest, most coordinated or the best player. But she was the tallest and probably the oldest. And she did manage to score a goal before the end of the season. She had a lot of fun and it was fun to watch her play. I think she learned a lot and started to develop a love for playing a sport. It doesn't really help that Kasala and I know NOTHING about soccer. We spent a lot of time on YouTube trying to find drills and stuff to help her with her "game". Despite all of our "help" she decided to not take much of our advice and instead listen to Coach Kelly and Coach Tim. (Wise decision Terina.) Anyways she got her first team sport under her belt and is signed up to play outdoor soccer with the Franklin Pierce Soccer Club starting on Tuesday. We'll just ignore the fact that I was late signing her up and her age group (U7) was full and now she has to play one age group up (U8). I'm sure what ever she lacks in skill she will make up in height.
Terina also finished her first year of kindergarten! She was amazing.... most of the time. She's reading about 4 grade levels ahead, made a ton of new friends, and got really good grades. She enjoyed being in school so much and just loved her teachers. She's been working on her reading this summer and finished her first chapter book a few weeks ago. She's really in to these American Girl dolls and books. It took us a while to finish the book but it was a huge accomplishment for her. She even passed her AR test and got 3 points for it! We should find out in a few weeks who she has for 1st grade. She's really hoping that she gets Mrs. Rob (I'm not sure why she wants Mrs. Rob so bad but every time I bring up 1st grade she goes off about how Mrs. Rob is ssssoooooo cool!)
Manamea has developed quite the personality in the last 8 months. She is talking so much now and can/will repeat everything you say. One of her favorite things to do right now is to tell me to "shut up" when I'm talking to someone. I know I shouldn't laugh because I'm sure she picked it up from me. I'm constantly telling Kasala to shut up... but in a nice way ;) Manamea is very strong willed and very determined to do things that she sees Terina doing. Her new "trick" is to lean as far back as she can while swinging. We don't mess around on the swing either...she goes pretty high. Other accomplishments include: peddle her little trike the correct way and crash into Grandpa's car, using the toilet to sheeshee and doodoo (not consistently but she'll tell me when she's gotta go), diving into a swimming pool when Mommy wasn't looking and being able to "save" herself, and throwing things very hard and very far... you don't want to be on the receiving end of a baseball thrown by her. Especially if she was aiming for your head. Doesn't feel too good.
Kasala has stayed busy with work. He gracefully took a part time position at his work because I was working crazy hours and we felt that one of us needed to be with Terina in the morning to get ready for school and with Manamea through out the day. He had Manamea on a schedule that was just amazing. She got up late, ate a little bit and about 90 minutes later was back in bed napping. And when she napped, she was out for 2-3 hours. They (because that was Kasala's nap time too you know) would wake up, pick up Terina from school and then play outside. And somehow she would go to bed around 9pm. IT WAS GREAT! (But don't worry... I've messed that whole thing up since summer started.) So anyways, Kasala works from 1am-530am every day. It was a huge pay reduction but it was necessary at the time.
Right now Kasala is in Samoa. I think I should have every major holiday covered for the remaining of the 2012 year like his birthday, Fathers' Day in Samoa (which I'm trying to figure out exactly WHY we are celebrating that here in AMERICA!!) our anniversary and Christmas. This is an all inclusive trip so I hope he's living it up.
So while Kasala is in the tropics having fruity drinks by the pool with little fancy umbrella's, I am at home with the girls stressed to the max! 16 days he will be gone. Yes my parents are here but they too are leaving for Samoa next week. I'm breaking out in a rash because I'm stressed!! Things went pretty well today. We got the girls room cleaned, the dishes done and most of my room clean. But Manamea took a discus to the face (complements of Terina) Terina fell off the swing and cracked her head pretty hard (that's what she gets for setting up "boobie traps:" around the playground) and my almost clean room is full of Ritz cracker crumbs because my girls don't know how to eat properly. The house looks like it was hit by a hurricane and so do I for that matter. Oh well.... what can you do? I'm doing the best I know how to do and the best I can do. I'm pretty sure we'll survive. There might be some injuries along the way but I"m sure I'll be able to shop whatever pain there is away.
Ok so in the last 8 months I have been working full time at the middle school as a LAP reading teacher! I had 6 classes of kids who were very far below the reading standard for their grade level. Most of them were kids who don't speak english at home. One of my classes was mostly Mexican kids... they freakin cracked me up all the time! I loved that class! This was my first long term job since moving back to Washington. I was there for almost 5 months! I worked with a super supportive and great team and I learned so much about myself as a teacher. I have been applying for full time jobs in several districts in the area but nothing has really amounted to anything. I have come to the conclusion that if I do not get a full time job it is because I need to be home with my kids more. I need to be a better mom and wife. And if I do get hired some where full time.... SORRY 'BOUT IT FOLKS!! Make your own dinner! Just kidding.... kind of
I also coached track again this year which is why Kasala had to cut back on his hours. I was gone from about 630 am until 5pm everyday and sometimes later if there was a track meet. The kids this year were great. Very dedicated to the sport and willing to work hard. There were a few mishaps that I take FULL responsibility for. Like the kid I called a smart ass in front of everyone for being disrespectful to me and just an all around D-bag. Then I told him to get his crap and go home. About 20 minutes later and I had a very angry mother with 2 very large girls looking for me... she totally ruined a good practice by the way. You know the thing that really made me mad.... none of the other coaches had my back! One of them just stood at the fence watching and then after said "That was pretty intense huh? I don't think I could have handled that." For real? You mine as well should have popped some pop corn and broke out the red vines because you were certainly enjoying the show but didn't do a damn thing to help calm the crazy lady down!! It took me almost an hour to get this lady to calm down and then before she left she asked me for a hug. A hug? Really? You yell and point your finger at me in front of my athletes and then ask for a hug? I thought she was joking but she was serious!! And the 2 large female enforcers she brought with her did nothing the whole time.
Anyways... enough about that incident. Track was very eventful this year. I think I made about 5 people cry...and they weren't all high school kids either. Oh well. Sometimes the truth hurts and during track season I was having a hard time keeping my opinions to myself this year. My kids did really well though and that's what matters. My seniors were great and so much fun to coach. I had 2 make it to state. Neither one of them placed but it was nice just to have them there. Everyone improved this year too. I'm not sure if I'll coach again next year. It takes a lot of time away from the family and I could see that the girls were affected.
So that's been the last 8 months with our family. Whoever is reading this is pretty much been caught up with our lives in about 5-15 minutes depending on how fast you can read. Hopefully it won't take me another 8 months to write something else. And maybe next time I'll jazz it up with some pictures.... just for fun
