After the Fall break I started a new job.... again. Substituting was really slow and I was really worried that I wasn't going to get many jobs. PLUS... Now with "Furlough Friday's" I really wasn't sure if teachers were going to take time off during the school week for things when they could just do them on Friday when we have no school.
So anyways... I am now back to Part Time Teaching. It's 4th grade Language Arts and Math. I have 8 students and a classroom that I share with the math teacher. The students are pretty good... for the most part. The only hard thing right now is that I have 8 students, who are at a 1st grade or lower reading level. They also have behavior problems. These kids come with a TON of baggage... most of which I have no idea about and am learning as I go.
It's been hard, but I really like it. I have my own space and as long as I am teaching to the state's standards then I'm good! I also have a "helper" who is in the classroom with me. Julie is a retired Special Ed. teacher who actually spent a lot of time working with the kids I have now. She's great in the classroom and she gives me great feedback. She is very supportive and has actually encouraged me to go back to school. She thinks I'm great with the elementary aged kids! Anyways... I love my class and my kids. No matter how hard they can be sometimes.
