No power, gas or money

My alarm went off this morning at 5am. The reason... get my fat butt out of bed and to the gym. But what was the first thing I noticed? NO POWER! All of our windows are closed because we have an air conditioner. (Thanks Dad.. best investment you made) It was so hot! Our house felt like a sauna. And if we have no power then the gym certainly doesn't have any either. So I laid there, sweating until Terina woke up around 6:30am telling me that we needed to go help Grandpa put the povi in the freezer. (I don't know what she dreams about.) So we jump out of bed only to find Kasala laying in the middle of the family room floor groaning about how hot it is. One would think that if you were hot you'd open the windows right? Nope... he didn't so Terina and I opened all the windows and the door to try and catch a non existent breeze. Thankfully the power came back on around 7:20 and we locked all the windows and Terina sat in front of the AC until I was ready to take her to school. It's really nice that she still goes to Rainbow School and Kasala and I have some time to ourselves. On the way home I had to stop for gas. One thing that we have to buy no matter how much it cost. Gas is on the rise again over here. It's about 3 dollars. While we have been really good about our budgeting and making sure all our bills get paid, the only gas station in Laie isn't really good about budgeting their gas. I swear every time we go there they are out of gas and we have to pay for the expensive junk. Really... you're the only gas station. The next closest one is in Kahuku, and if I were smart I'd just go there when I take Terina. But their gas was closed for quite a while too. The closest one after that... I probably wouldn't have enough gas to make it to. We're trying really hard to save some money for Kasala's papers, our trip home next month and the start of the new term that is coming up. One good thing is that we don't have to worry about rent. A super huge bad thing is that this week is my last paycheck. Our Ipod box that was once full of money is now empty and I'm depositing the last of our "Mad Money" into the bank to pay bills. I was listening on the radio this morning about how they are raising taxes here in the state on almost everything but they were talking about the car tax. We never registered our car here. It's way to much money even for an out of state permit but I guess now they are raising the car tax 66% which makes me not want to register it even more. I never really noticed the cost of living out here until I had to pay all the bills myself. It seems it is rather expensive to live here and you don't really make much to live off of. I can't wait until Kasala is finished with school and we can live somewhere a little more affordable. Until then... we'll get by. It's kind of nice not having a lot of extra money. We don't go out very often and we haven't really bought anything new that we didn't need but the good part is that we spend more time at home with each other. We'll go outside, play games inside, watch a movie. Terina and I went to PCC on Friday with a friend and she had so much fun walking through the villages. We have to go again before leaving for Washington so she can go on a boat ride and get a tattoo, the two things I was to tired to do last week. So we're having fun being poor. Hopefully the fun doesn't last forever cause I don't think I can be poor forever.
